CHITIGNANO
Un borgo storico immerso nel verde delle colline casentinesi, situato lungo l'itinerario che porta al Sacro Monte della Verna. Un tempo antica stazione termale per la presenza di sorgenti di acque solforose, fu feudo della famiglia degli Ubertini. Parte delle strutture dell'antico Castello e la Podesteria sono oggi ancora visibili. La sua posizione geografica quale paese di confine portò allo sviluppo di una attività un pò particolare: quella del contrabbando di tabacco e di polvere da sparo. I ricordi di questa via del contrabbando rimangono oggi nel sentiero e nella camminata che ogni anno si svolge in questi luoghi e che, come nel passato, attrae numerosi camminatori e viaggiatori.

A historical village surrounded by the lush green of the Casentino hills This small mountain village is situated along the tourist route that leads to Sacro Monte della Verna. In ancient times it was a spa village with flowing sulphurous thermal springs. It was a feudal village at one time under the Ubertini family. Parts of the original structure of the ancient castle and the Town Hall are still visible. Interestingly, the position of the village on the border of the territory made it ahot spot for smuggling tobacco and gun powder. This ancient smuggling activity is remembered with an annual walk through the village and countryside, which attracts large numbers of walkers and travellers.
